Sebaceous hyperplasia appears as small, soft, flesh-coloured or yellowish bumps that most commonly develop on the face, particularly around the forehead, cheeks and nose.
Suitable sebaceous hyperplasia can be treated using Advanced Electrolysis, with treatment carefully adapted to the size, number and location of the blemishes.

What is sebaceous hyperplasia?
Sebaceous hyperplasia is a harmless enlargement of the sebaceous glands, which are the glands in the skin that produce oil.
The blemishes often appear as small, smooth or slightly raised bumps and may have a tiny dip or opening in the centre. They are commonly seen on areas of the face where there are more sebaceous glands and can become more noticeable over time.
Although sebaceous hyperplasia is benign and doesn’t need treatment for medical reasons, some people choose to have the blemishes reduced because they would prefer them to be less visible.
I’ll assess the area carefully at your consultation to make sure it appears suitable for Advanced Electrolysis. If anything needs to be medically checked before treatment, I’ll explain this to you.
TREATMENT
How I treat sebaceous hyperplasia
Suitable sebaceous hyperplasia can be treated using Advanced Electrolysis. A very fine sterile probe is used with a carefully controlled electrical current to treat the enlarged sebaceous tissue precisely.
Treatment is targeted to the individual raised areas of the blemish while avoiding unnecessary treatment of the surrounding skin. Some sebaceous hyperplasia can respond well to treatment, while larger or more established areas may need further treatment once the skin has healed.
A small patch test may be carried out during your consultation where appropriate, particularly if several blemishes are being treated.

AFTER TREATMENT
What happens afterwards?
Over the next few days
A small crust or scab may form as the area heals. This should be left completely alone and allowed to come away naturally. Avoid picking, rubbing or trying to remove it.
As the skin heals
The treated area should gradually settle and the result becomes clearer once healing is complete. Larger or more established areas may require further treatment.
Immediately after
The treated area may look red or slightly swollen and can feel warm or tender. Occasionally a small amount of sebaceous material may be visible from the treated area.
You’ll be given clear aftercare advice following your treatment.
Your treatment includes an aftercare product to take home, along with guidance on how to care for your skin as it heals.

A consultation is required before treatment and is charged separately at £25.
Where appropriate, this may include a small patch test to assess how your skin responds before treating a larger area.
The treatment price will depend on the number, size and location of the blemishes being treated. Smaller areas may be treated in one appointment, while larger or more established areas may need additional treatment once the skin has healed.
