Facial thread veins are small, visible red or purple blood vessels that commonly appear around the nose, cheeks and other areas of the face. Spider naevi are another common type of visible vascular blemish that can often be treated in a similar way.
Suitable facial thread veins can be treated using Advanced Electrolysis, with treatment carefully adapted to the size, location and appearance of the vessels being treated.

What are facial thread veins?
Facial thread veins are tiny, widened blood vessels that sit close to the surface of the skin, making them visible as fine red or purple lines. They are also sometimes described as broken capillaries or telangiectasia.
They commonly appear around the nose and cheeks and can develop for a number of reasons, including genetics, ageing, sun exposure and changes within the skin. They are usually harmless, but some people choose to have them treated because they would prefer them to be less visible.
Spider naevi have a slightly different appearance, usually with a central red point and fine blood vessels radiating outwards, rather like the legs of a spider. They are generally harmless and can also be suitable for Advanced Electrolysis treatment.
TREATMENT
How I treat facial thread veins
Facial thread veins can be treated using Advanced Electrolysis. A very fine sterile probe is placed precisely along the visible vessel and a carefully controlled electrical current is applied at small points along its length.
The treatment is carried out gradually and precisely, with the technique adapted to the size and location of the vessels and the sensitivity of the surrounding skin. Some vessels respond quickly, while larger areas or more extensive thread veins may need further treatment once the skin has settled.

AFTER TREATMENT
What happens afterwards?
Over the next few days
Some temporary redness or small areas of crusting can occur as the skin settles. The area should be kept clean and allowed to heal naturally without picking or rubbing.
As the skin heals
The appearance of the treated vessels should gradually reduce as the area heals. The final result is not always immediate, and further treatment may be recommended for more extensive or persistent thread veins.
Immediately after
The treated area is likely to look red and may feel warm or slightly tender. The vessels and surrounding skin can initially appear more noticeable following treatment.
You’ll be given clear aftercare advice following your treatment.
Your treatment includes an aftercare product to take home, along with guidance on how to care for your skin as it heals.

A consultation is required before treatment and is charged separately at £25.
For small or localised areas of facial thread veins, a 15-minute appointment may be enough. The amount that can be treated will depend on the number, size and location of the vessels.
Larger areas, more extensive thread veins or vessels that need a more gradual approach may require additional time or further treatment once the skin has settled.
